City College’s men’s basketball team trounced the Butte College Eagles at home with a 99-69 win on Saturday, Feb. 25 in a second-round playoff game.
Carving out one more win, the CCSF Women’s Basketball team would make it to the NorCal Finals. On Feb. 25 the Rams , never letting go of the lead, walked away with an 84-57 rout of the Lassen Community College Cougars.
City College’s women’s basketball team looks good in preseason play. Winning the state title is “definitely an attainable goal this year,” Coach Derek Lau said of his team that is ranked 6th in the state.
The Rams completed their near-perfect season with a decisive 25-point lead, defeating the only team to beat them this season with a final score of 91-66.
City College had what appeared to be a run at the State Championship during their 2019-2020 season, but had their effort shut down due to COVID-19. Now the side looks to continue it with boundless confidence.
Coach Labagh attributed the team’s success to their heavy pressure against the opposition. “We can pressure without fouling. We’re gonna wear teams down with our bench.”
So far, the team has dominated in their preseason matches, winning all of their games by at least a 20 point margin.
Stripped of the opportunity to close their perfect season with a state title, the 2019-2020 men’s basketball team recounts the highs, the lows, and the lessons learned from that unforgettable year.

In the final round of Norcal Regional Playoffs, the City College women’s basketball team lost a back-and-forth game to the Diablo Valley College Vikings, falling just short of the state finals.
The City College Men’s Basketball team’s undefeated season came to a disappointing end when they were denied the opportunity to cap it off with a State Championship because of COVID-19.
