On the volleyball court Karen Yip is the most animated player on the City College team. The redshirt sophomore is always quick to encourage her teammates, making sure everyone is in the right positions. After she scores or makes a nice play Karen has the most lively celebrations on the court.

The men’s soccer team at City College was considered an average athletic program in the early 1990s with a losing reputation and difficulty with recruiting. After years of mediocrity and playoff droughts, an enthusiastic coach with a love for soccer was brought aboard and eventually turned the program around.

Rams suffer tight loss versus rival San Mateo

Playing at San Mateo’s home field, with its sweeping views of the San Francisco Bay, City College had to deal with the undefeated Bulldogs’ relentless defensive pressure. At the same time, the Rams committed some costly mistakes they were unable to recover from.

Rams’ quarterback Turner Baty got no relief from San Mateo’s tenacious defense, and was sacked six times.

Runners set new personal records

City College’s cross-country team raced through the woodland hills of Golden Gate Park on Oct. 11 at the San Francisco State University Cross-Country Invitational, notching several personal records.
