The 3rd seeded Rams defeated the 14th seed Napa Valley 5-0 at the City College’s soccer field in the first round of the California Community College Norcal Regional tournament.
Having the number two seed and home field advantage in the 2011 Women’s Soccer Norcal Regional playoffs, the Rams were already off on the right foot before their match between the 15th seeded Skyline Trojans even started.
The ball also seemed to bounce City College’s way during the game, as they were able to take advantage of an own goal by Skyline in the Rams 3-1 win at City College’s soccer field on Nov. 19.
There was a lot of hype going into the match-up between the top two teams in the Coast Conference as the Rams (17-5, 7-2) faced off against rival Foothill College (16-5, 8-1) to inch closer to the top.
After falling behind early in the fourth quarter, the Rams clawed their way back to keep their perfect record intact.
The City College men’s soccer team fought until the last minute but failed to defeat Cabrillo College on Oct. 25 when neither team was able to score.
The Rams closed out their 2011 season losing their last 13 games in a row. City College finished with a record of 5-29.
After a blowout victory against rival Foothill College, City College women’s basketball will head back to Ventura, Calif. to play in the state semifinals.
