Hi Christina,
I like the rotating picture thingy here. It needs a tool like on the front page where you can pause/pick which number photo. Also, I think it's cool that you did an Oakland story; way to expand your horizons Guardsman!

Hi Karen,
Way to get this story out! It seems like CCSF got off easy on this. I wonder if Wong considers this a feather in his cap?

Hi Skammer1974,

First off, thanks for submitting a comment. :)

I would have to admit that I misidentified Vesper's former lover, Yusef, who is French-Algerian, as her husband. I ultimately agree that she did sacrifice herself for both Yusef and Bond, and that I probably should have mentioned that.

Also, I didn't even think of George Lazenby. I might have to re-watch "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" again to see if he is, in my opinion, the worst James Bond.

Dude, get your Bond facts right. Vesper did not sacrifice her life for her husband, she did it for her Macaroon boyfriend. In fact, she sacrificed her life for 2 men.

I know you consider Timothy Dalton as the worst Bond and I agree as well as others I am sure. How about George Lazenby? He didn't make it past his first acted Bond film.

Hi! I think there is a mis-perception of the potential for quality online learning experiences. I have taught at the University of Illinois since 1971 - more than 4,000 students in more than 200 regular semester and summer session classes. Since 1998, I have only taught online. I and my online students have found that we can engage one another in meaningful ways that enable and facilitate engagement, reflection and deep learning.

Indiana University just last week released its latest version of the National Survey of Student Engagement (linked here: http://nsse.iub.edu/NSSE_2008_Results/) The narrative in the executive summary speaks to some of the advantages:

<i>"Other key findings from the 2008 survey are: Students taking most of their classes online report more deep approaches to learning in their classes, relative to classroom based learners. Furthermore, a larger share of online learners reported very often participating in intellectually challenging course activities.... When courses provided extensive, intellectually challenging writing activities, students engaged in more deep learning activities such as analysis, synthesis, and integration of ideas from various sources, and they grappled more with course ideas both in and out of the classroom. These students also reported greater personal, social, practical, and academic learning and development. McCormick says the findings for online learners are intriguing. 'Critics of distance education assume that face to face classes have inherent advantages as learning environments. But these results indicate that those who teach classes online may be making special efforts to engage their students. It may also be the case that online classes appeal to students who are more academically motivated and self-directed.'” </i>

The report is worth reading.

Best wishes from the prairie.
