Newsroom 2.0: Integrating social networking into your publication

Newsroom 2.0 was held from 1:45-3:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 28, 2009 in Salon D at the DoubleTree hotel in Sacramento, Calif. at the 2009 JACC state conference.

A discussion on best practices to integrate social networking tools and services into print and online editions of a student-run publication.

Topics to be discussed included using social networking sites to increase web traffic and readership, the challenges of maintaining an online presence and popular web trends. Speaker Bios:

Jessica Luthi is currently the editor in chief for The Guardsman from City College of San Francisco and a visual/web journalism major. Mrs. Luthi was a key designer on the redesign team for The Guardsman’s online edition and does web consulting on a part-time basis.

Currently the online editor and a copy editor for City College of San Francisco’s student newspaper, Alex Luthi had a major role in facilitating the redesign of The Guardsman’s online edition, theguardsman.com.

John Hornberg is the current executive editor of the Spartan Daily and a senior print journalism major at San Jose State University and a former editor-in-chief at The Current at American River College in Sacramento. He will be working as an intern at the copy desk at the Los Angeles Times this summer.
