The City College Library and Learning Department has sadly announced the loss of their friend and colleague librarian James Horn Lim who passed away in Redwood City on March 19.

James is survived by his wife Theresa Yau, son Aaron, father Kim, and his brother John, as well as remembered by the many who came to know him in his 19 years with City College.

James was born in San Francisco on April 21, 1953 and graduated from UC Berkeley with a BA in English, followed by an MA in library science. In addition to his many years of service with the San Francisco Public Library and City College, he is remembered with immense fondness by his friends and coworkers who knew him as a violinist, abstract expressionist painter, a runner, cyclist, rower, world traveller, and friend.

In a message sent to the school by his long time friend and coworker Karen Saginor, he is described as a “kind and generous colleague” whose time with the school was marked by “his warmth, accessibility, and joy.” A small memorial is being kept in the Rosenberg Library.

A memorial for his friends and colleagues at City College has been planned for Friday, April 24, from 3-5 p.m.

Rather than flowers, donations may be sent to CCSF Friends of the Library, c/o Deanna Abma, FOL Treasurer, 50 Phelan Avenue, C308, San Francisco, CA 94112 with note on check.
