The Guardsman

Rams’ guards Kelly Wong and Chanel Malone each scored 12 points leading the women’s basket- ball team to a 67-63 victory over Laney College on Feb. 28.

The Rams dominated the first half offensively with more efficient ball handling movement than their opponent, ending the half with a 10 point lead.

In the second half, the Rams drew a series of fouls that allowed Laney to come back momentarily. But the team quickly responded with a successful zone defense that jammed the Laney offense, prevent- ing them from taking the lead for more than a short period of time.

“We just had to stay focused,” Head Coach Derek Lau said about the win. “Our thing is just kind of shaking it off, not thinking behind but thinking ahead, so we just had to keep shaking it off and stay com- posed—the girls did a great job and they finished it.”
