  1. Hello.
I’m a young author and my debut travel novel, I of the Sun, was released recently. It should be of great interest to your college newspaper’s readers, since it’s about myself at 22, and my first big solo trip abroad, and covers a lot of topics relevant to young people.

I very much hope you will consider my book for review in your college newspaper. Please can you forward my email to those responsible for book reviews? Thank you very much for your help.

I of the Sun will appeal to many of your student readers. It’s mostly set in the backpacker world of Thailand, but also explores Malaysia, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam, following me at 22 on my first trip around the region for one year. It’s an autobiographical travel novel, but as well as your more traditional travel writing, there are more psychological and stylized sections covering the highs and lows of travel, adventure, partying, drink, drugs, sex, love, relationships and youth. It also uses the medium of solo travel to explore the debate between free will and determinism from philosophical, scientific and historical perspectives. So there’s a good mixture of youthful travel writing, entertainment and more intellectual content that will appeal greatly to college students.

    • I of the Sun is available on Amazon in e-book and paperback formats, as well as iTunes and Barnes & Noble.
    • The Bangkok Post, Thailand’s leading newspaper, called it, “one of the best books of the regional backpacker trail.”
    • It was number 2 in South East Asia Backpacker’s The 10 Books you Should be Reading Now.
    • It’s been getting a lot of attention in UK student newspapers recently too. Check the website for more information: http://www.iofthesun.com
    • There was rise in US visitors to Thailand last year to 826,000, and Bangkok was the most visited city in the world.

If you’re interested in the book, I can send you a free review copy in either mobi (for Kindle), epub or pdf format.
Or if you’d like any other content, such as extracts or an interview on related topics such as writing, backpacking or Southeast Asian travel, then please get in touch at any time.

I’m from Cambridge in the UK originally, and graduated from The University of Leeds in Management Studies & Philosophy. I now live in Bangkok, Thailand. I’m a writer and university lecturer. You can find more information and links on the book’s website: http://www.iofthesun.com

I look forward to hearing from you soon. Many thanks for your time.

    Best regards,
    Richard Arthur.

  2. Dear Madeline or whomever this may concern,

My name’s Luca, I’m working in the Publicity department at the San Francisco Film Society.

The 57th San Francisco International Film Festival is just around the corner, running from April 24–May 8. I’d be keen to work with you to get coverage of SFIFF57 in The Guardsman.

The opening press conference where we announce the full Festival program is scheduled for Tuesday, April 1st, but we’ll also be revealing a number of SFIFF57 awards and events leading up to that date (we’ve already announced An Evening with Richard Linklater at the Castro Theatre, Friday May 2, 7:00 pm).

Here is a link to everything we’ve announced so far:

Please reply to this email to let me know if you are interested in covering SFIFF this year and we can discuss media accreditation for you and your writers.

Thank you for your time and I look forward to hearing from you!

    Yours,
    Luca Piercey
