Fashion Students Show Off Summer Wares

By Michaela Payne

City College fashion design students are ready to unleash their end-of-semester design debuts onto the catwalk.

Two recent shows transformed the usual lunch hour in the Ocean Campus cafeteria, “The Velvet Underground” on April 28 and “Noir New York” on May 5, where models showed off themed outfits curated by nine fashion design students.

The students’ own original design collections will debut at “Prism,” City College’s 15th annual student-produced fashion show on Sunday, May 22 in Ruby Skye nightclub at 420 Mason St. After a reception from 5-6 p.m. and catwalk show from 6-6:30, the finale will reveal which of three graduating fashion design students has been awarded a full scholarship to the Academy of Art University.

Student tickets to “Prism” are $15 with school ID, $20 for the general public and $30 for the “haute VIP” experience complete with the house’s best seating, a goodie bag and raffle tickets. Tickets are available at the door and in advance in the bookstores of the Ocean, Downtown and Mission campuses, in Batmale Hall Room 210 and at www.brownpapertickets.com.
