The Smith Hall cafeteria’s typical atmosphere of hunger-diminishing and homework-finishing was recently dynamically transformed into a venue of excitement and allure by a series of student-produced fashion shows.

Student models in smokey, wing-tipped lined eyes and styling hair into angelic curls and edgy buns and thrifted clothing were showcased by students in the fashion 47 course.

On Nov. 13, models in a show titled “Time of Luxury” marched confidently down the cafeteria’s chair-cleared runway in looks of elegance and class.

Cardigans and shoulder padded blazers in powder blue and bright pink were paired with berets. High-slit evening gowns shimmered and sparkled with jewel-encrusted emblems and high-necked blouses. Button downs featured an array of sequined designs.

“Confidence is power, power is confidence,” show producer Christian Kruchenko said.

“Time of Luxury” featured textures in satin, velour, cashmere, chiffon, fur, and spandex, and colors rich with jewel tones of sapphire, emerald and ruby with classic colors of cream, black and beige.

“We were really inspired by Dior circa 1947,”  fashion design major and producer Courtenay O’Brien said.

The luxe show closed with a sapphire blue and silver glitter ball gown paired with elbow-length gloves.

On the other hand, an edgy play on fall’s classic staples was seen in Nov. 5’s “Fallin’ for Fashion,” orchestrated by students Jaskinder Kaur, Roman Kaur, Karin Santizo, Amber Ledet, Marina Jaramillo and Sharon Rodas.

The sheer button down shirt has been trending for seasons, but paired with printed liquid leggings and pleated leather gave the piece a fresh revival. The pieces in “Fallin’ for Fashion” were styled in a refreshing blend of unexpected modernity mixed with classic fall staples.

Sheer black maxi skirts were coupled with oversized sweaters and turtleneck sweaters with exaggerated necklines paired with leather mini skirts, exemplifying how to look hot amid the cold.

Puffy sleeves added a modern twist to the classic trench coat, worn over bodycon dresses in golds, reds, and blacks paired with Jeffrey Campbell Lita platforms and spiky accessories.

The fashion department’s “Fall in the City” show on Nov. 27 started off on a sweet note as a translucent bag of candy was placed on the seats of the audience.

The show’s looks were as heterogeneous as its music selection. It began with blousy tops in soft colors such as peach and white, fitted bottoms, and the electronic sounds of La Roux pulsed throughout the room.

As the show progressed, the original classy fall theme shifted to one featuring bodycon dresses in bright hues and the addition of a tribal sweater in muted tones of beige and navy blue.

The steely electronic tunes shifted to summer with such reminiscent sounds as Katy Perry’s “California Girls.”

The production featured an array of fashion favorites.

A single-sleeved bodycon dress, named for the spandex-esque fit contouring to the shape of the body, paired seamlessly with Mary Jane stilettos which added a modern lure to the romantic look.

Peplum dresses combined with edgy, studded boots created a fun fusion of pretty and punk.

These looks differed greatly from other pieces in the show, such as the addition of denim jeans and plaid flannels which unexpectedly introduced a laid-back fall vibe into the mix.

Fashion students finished off the string of on campus shows with “Rock-and-Rule” on Nov. 29, which focused on fall’s high fashion. The show was produced by Felicia Effendi, Emily Lau, and Arlene Hernandez.

A silky evening gown paired with a long fur vest, and a diamond back evening gown in an eye-catching emerald hue captured the attention of the entire room.
