Cantonese classes at the Chinatown campus are about more than just language instruction. They build bridges across cultures and generations while honoring the community that still lives in San Francisco’s Chinatown. That’s why our community leaders, alumni, and students continue to advocate for an additional Cantonese instructor at the Chinatown campus.
For over 200 days, Interim Chancellor Mitch Bailey was nothing but transparent about both the state of the college, and his prospect of unemployment. Throughout the fall semester, many found him both honest and approachable, so they were dissapointed to hear how adamant he was about leaving after his interim stint.
The City College men’s basketball team is ranked No. 1 in the state. It has only one loss this season. And the Rams were hosting a team with only one win this year in the Coast-North Conference.
Diving headfirst into 2025, the Rams’ swimming team set a foundation for season-long team connections. In only the second meet of the year, one swimmer qualified in two post-season events. The Rams hosted five other colleges’ women’s squads and several men’s teams at the City College natatorium on Feb. 7 and 8 for the San Francisco Invitational.

The Tour catalogs 45 works of art spread across five campuses, with 27 of these works residing on the Ocean campus. The Tour also indicates which works are in storage; a considerable amount due to construction underway. The mural, completed in 1940 but in storage after a stint at the SFMOMA, is planned to be displayed in the new Performing Arts Center.
When Board of Trustees president Alan Wong sat down at Mayor London Breed’s desk with the newly appointed Interim Chancellor Mitchell Bailey, they were there for what they thought would be a straightforward meeting to introduce the new chancellor. It was a calm, clear day in June after the spring semester had ended, and it was sprung on the college representatives that the mayor’s office intended to drastically reduce contributions to the Free City program.
City College grapples with increasing demands for adult education and the administration is now considering how to reinstate and expand these programs despite significant challenges related to funding, staffing and logistics.
The Ram Plaza on the Ocean campus was filled with colorful designs as the Paint a Tote event took place on Wednesday, Oct. 2. The event, which ran for two hours in the morning, was put on by the Associated Students Council Ocean (ASCO), which provided free tote bags, paint, brushes, and other art supplies.
City College of San Francisco may soon allow non-citizen students to vote in leadership elections, thanks to a proposal by Trustee Alan Wong. The move aims to promote inclusion and civic engagement in the diverse student body. Non-citizen student Diana Martin supports the initiative, stating, “Being able to vote … represents an opportunity not only to be heard but also to be seen as agents of change.” The proposal could set a precedent for other educational institutions.
The City College of San Francisco men’s soccer team is off to a strong start this season, with two impressive wins. Sophomore Xavier has been a standout, scoring five goals in two games. The Rams secured a 4-0 victory against Contra Costa College and followed up with a 3-0 win over Napa Valley College. Their balanced play, combining strong offense and a solid defense, has made them early contenders in the 2024 season.
