Basking in the sun on the steps across the Visual Arts Building, Barbara Jefferson is quickly distinguished by a style that can easily be identified as her own.  “The weather has a lot to do with it,” the 23-year-old said. Other influences for her colorful clothing are her mood and rose tea, her favorite morning beverage.

This is her first semester at City College. Although she has not yet decided on a major, she enjoys attending French, nutrition, and photography classes. Prior to enrolling in school in San Francisco, Jefferson studied acting for film and television in New York.

While attending school in New York, she and her friends loved to take advantage of the fashionable street fairs open to the public. Once inside, every person was allowed to fill one shopping bag with any of the desired clothing displayed at the fair.

“I like to wear different colors [and] mix and match different prints,” she said. The kaleidoscopic East Coast style hanging from the racks at those fairs helped Jefferson to develop her own style.

When asked whether she purchased any of her featured clothing from one of the street fairs in New York , she admits to raiding her friends’ closets. “The shoes and socks are mine,” she said. Her socks can be found at the GAP, however they do not come paired in the two different colors she was sporting that day. It is simply the work of her creativity that completes this divergent look.
