Imagine models working a runway in modern fashions with a vintage twist and music from the era throbbing through speakers as students and faculty watch on, many spectators still eating their lunch.

That was the scene in the City College student cafeteria on Dec. 3. People gathered for a fashion show called “Decoding a Decade,” which presented clothes inspired by the 80s. Informal fashion shows like these had been taking place every Tuesday and Thursday since Nov. 17 and ran through Dec. 8.

The shows exhibited the variety of talents the students in the fashion department at City College have. Several different themes from “It’s a Man’s World” to “Hard Candy” were covered and the events proved to be as diverse as the people on campus.

While some outfits modeled during “Decoding A Decade” could be worn to the office or to a job interview, others were more casual. Many of the outfits played with bright colors, and one model wore a radioactive pink-colored blazer accenting a black outfit. While some fabrics used in the show were all one color, other fabrics had bold patterns or interesting textures.

Although there were rows of seats set up specifically for the fashion show, many of the audience watched from their tables in the cafeteria. Quite a few tables had people who went about what they were doing without noticing there was anything unusual going on in the cafeteria at all.

The fashion department holds several different events throughout the semester. More information about these events and about the department can be found at www.ccsf.edu/Departments/Fashion.
