A protest against the release of Johannes Mehserle marched from Fruitvale to Oakland on Sunday. Ex-BART cop Johannes Mehserle shot and killed Oscar Grant and was convicted of manslaughter in 2009. He was released after only two years.
The early release of former BART police officer Johannes Mehserle, who was convicted last year of involuntary manslaughter for killing unarmed passenger Oscar Grant, drew a relatively subdued reaction on the streets of Oakland Jan. 12.
The wounds of a community shaken to its core by a single gun shot, fired into the back of an unarmed, face-down BART passenger on Jan. 1, 2009, will likely be ripped open again with Johannes Mehserle’s release from prison on June 13.
