The Water Cooler

Bay Area sports is becoming comical, painful and depressing to watch. It’s like going after the cute girl in high school — she talks to you, makes you feel good and when you ask her out on a date, she crushes your heart by telling you she has a boyfriend.

She leads you on like the San Francisco Giants. You think about this girl all day, like you start to think about the Giants finally doing something special and — BOOM —  in a matter of minutes you’ve been duped and tricked into believing the fantasy was going to turn into a reality.

Not to mention the Cal Bears being number six in the country, only to be playing for a berth in the granddaddy of ’em all, the Emerald Bowl. Let’s put it like this, sports junkies: When a hockey team is the one team having success in your region, odds are you are a current resident of the Bay Area.

By the way, if you were tantalized about the prospects of the Raiders and Golden State Warriors having success, you must have thought you had a chance of dating Beyonce or Halle Barry. Keep dreaming.

Idiot of the Week

Since we are on the subject of talking about how crappy and demoralizing Bay Area sports has become, this week’s new inductees into the Idiots Hall of Fame are the Golden State Warriors – the whole damn franchise.

As I’m typing this, I’m multi-tasking by reading a report about head coach Don Nelson storming out of the team’s practice after getting into a confrontation with guard Monte Ellis. By the time this hits the press, you will all know what I’m talking about.

The reason for this induction is simple: It’s just a dumb organization, run by morons. From owner Chris Cohan not giving a damn about wins and losses, to Stephen Jackson’s daily tantrums about getting traded, this franchise has proven once again to be the laughing stock of the NBA.

How did it get so bad only three seasons after that magical playoff run? It started by showing no loyalty to Jason Richardson, trading him for the injury-prone Brandan Wright. Canning Chris Mullin as the general manager was cutthroat, especially after he built the franchise back to respectability.

This induction was a no-brainer.

Miscellaneous

If you haven’t heard, the New York Yankees won their 27th world series. That’s their 11th championship since 1954, which was the last season the Giants ever won anything. Just throwing that out there …

Also, after Pedro Martinez’s induction into the idiot hall of fame, he made us all proud here at the I.H.O.F. by taking the mound at Yankee Stadium and getting rocked in the Yanks series clinching win.

Since this is the next to last edition of the Water Cooler (I know, I’m tearing up with the rest of you), I’m open to taking emails on topics you would  like me to tear apart and dissect.

See ya in three weeks.
